Injured Lionel Messi has been left out of Barcelona's squad to face
Malaga tomorrow in a move which Gerardo Martino described as
"precautionary".
Messi sustained a muscle injury in his left leg against a physical
Atletico Madrid team in midweek as he was withdrawn at half time in the
Super Cup game which finished in a 1-1 draw. The second leg is set to
take place at the Camp Nou on Wednesday night and it is expected that
Messi will recover in time for that.
Martino said Messi's recovery to date was "satisfactory" from a
bruised muscle in his left thigh. The coach then continued discussing
Messi, "We are optimistic, but it's risky to play him again three days
later with the league just under way. I think Messi is fine and I'm not
worried about what has happened or what's being said. He prepared well
during the summer holidays. What happened the other day was a
coincidence."
