Barcelona 0 Atletico Madrid 0 - Barcelona clinch Super Cup

Barcelona were crowned Spanish Super Cup champions despite only managing a goalless draw on a night which saw Lionel Messi's return and an astonishing penalty miss.

Barcelona, having drawn the first leg 1-1 in Madrid, only required a clean sheet to win the Super Cup due to their away goal. However, their attitude was positive from the first whistle and they were unlucky not to have scored early on.

Leo Messi, returning after injuring his left thigh, was back to his full-flowing best as he forced foul after foul by a physical Atletico side.

Messi had one excellent chance in the first half when Busquets' defense splitting pass found him in space. The Argentine's first touch was perfection but he failed to get a clean shot away.

Arda Turan nearly gave Atletico a shocking opening goal, but Valdes' reaction save was world class.

The drama came at the death when Barcelona were awarded a penalty in the 88th minute. Messi stepped up to take it but saw his effort crash back off of the bar.

Despite the disappointment of his miss, Messi and Barcelona went on to lift the Super Cup on the virtue of their away goal which was scored by Neymar in the first leg.
